ABOUT US

At the FCA, we’re creating a fair and more resilient financial system. We’re establishing more transparent relationships between financial services and their customers, building trust in financial markets and protecting vulnerable customers.

Our ambition is to create a diverse and inclusive workplace that reflects the society we serve, helping us to be a better regulator. We’re looking for individuals from all backgrounds who subscribe to our values and want to make a difference.

If our Supervision Graduate Programme sounds right for you, we’d be delighted to hear from you.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

Programme Length: Two and a half years

Programme Type: Rotational

A career in Supervision offers an overview of every single business providing financial products and services in the UK. We protect customers and the integrity of the market by making sure firms work ethically and to the highest standards. If you have a genuine interest in governance, can argue persuasively and think strategically you could be just who we’re looking for.

You could join our Supervision Graduate Programme which is split across our two Supervision divisions – Retail Supervision (Retail & Authorisations) and Wholesale Supervision (Investment, Wholesale & Specialists). Over our two-and-a-half-year programme, you’ll get to explore both, as well as take on an external secondment. It’s a varied opportunity where you could be working with trade bodies and advisers to predict future risks. Equally, you could be reviewing and assessing individuals looking to work in our sector, or providing specialist support to the wider organisation in managing financial crime. At the end of the Graduate Programme, you’ll be equipped to apply for a role in either Retail Supervision or Wholesale Supervision.

As an alternative to our Supervision Graduate Programme, you could join Specialist Supervision which is a team within Supervision. Specialist Supervision provides specialist expertise across all regulated sectors and support to front-line supervisors, as well as leading on proactive assessment programmes in their specialist areas. Within Specialist Supervision you’d be aligned to either the Prudential Specialist Department (PSD) or Client Assets & Resolution Department (CARD). In PSD, you would be part of the FCA approach to prudential supervising 48,000 firms, learning how to assess firm’s financial strength and viability. In CARD, you’ll be in a team leading on assessing whether firms’ are protecting adequately over £14 trillion of client’s assets, as well as working on reducing harm to customers and markets when firms fail. After completing the Graduate Programme you’ll return to a role in either PSD or CARD as a specialist supervisor.

Regardless of which route you choose, you’ll be representing the FCA to senior executives and CEOs from a variety of different firms. It’s an unparalleled level of exposure where you’ll be making persuasive arguments and influencing the conduct of financial services firms.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR

To meet our eligibility requirements, you’ll need to have obtained a 2:1 degree or above in a STEM subject. The Prudential Specialist Department is also looking for graduates who are numerically capable as you’ll be involved in the FCA's assessment of firm’s capital and liquidity.

In addition to our academic requirements you’ll also need to be strategically minded, great at building strong relationships and able to influence and persuade – so being a great communicator is a must.

If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.

LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT

As a graduate in Supervision you’ll complete the Supervision training pathway through our training Academy which will equip you with all the skills you need to become a Supervisor. Or if you join Specialist Supervision, you’ll be provided with bespoke training to become a subject matter expert in either prudential regulation or client asset resolution.

Regardless of whether you join the Supervision Graduate Programme or prefer to become a specialist in Specialist Supervision, you’ll be supported in gaining relevant industry recognised qualifications, and participating in secondment opportunities that will help you to develop your career at the FCA.
